- Smoked tobacco is likely to hurt blood vessels throughout the body, including blood vessels that supply the heart, brain, arms, legs and feet. Damage to legs and feet may lead to poor circulation and Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD), and to open, painful sores that may need to be surgically removed.
- Smoking tobacco hurts your skin in two ways. First, the smoke from the lit tobacco causes it to become dry. Second, smoking tobacco decreases the flow of important nutrients and oxygen to the skin (skin is the body's largest organ). When this happens, other body organs get oxygen before the skin and the skin gets whatever oxygen is left. This is why tobacco smokers in their 40's usually have wrinkles on their face and look like they are much older.
